Anibal Casas • Gallery Manager, Auburn

Anibal is a native Californian, born and raised in the Sacramento area. He graduated from California College of the Arts. Anibal has a BFA in painting and a minor in English, emphasizing the immigrant experience through literature. He enjoys traveling and experiencing new cultures and often utilizes those experiences as reference material and inspiration for creating art. Anibal enjoys cooking as another creative outlet and often uses his artistic nature when cooking new recipes inspired by his travels. He works primarily with oil based mediums; however, he is currently experimenting with water based paints and learning to mimic the look and feel of oils with water based mediums. He routinely works on large format paintings either on canvas, wood panels or walls (Murals) when they are available. Anibal enjoys the physicality needed when painting in a larger format and the impact a large public art project can have on a community’s image and reputation. His imagery is reminiscent of his cultural upbringing and often reflects historical references that are important to him. His color palette is also reminiscent of the vibrant colors used in Latino textiles and found throughout Latin American imagery. He believes that art has the power to initiate change and dialogue when and where it’s needed. His favorite art quote is “ Creativity takes courage” by Henri Matisse.
