This workshop will introduce artists to the coil building technique, which is a fundamental hand-building technique for ceramic vessels. Artists are encouraged to make shapes and different designs with the coils to add visual interest and texture to their piece. After two sessions, you will take home a beautiful coil creation, the creative options are endless! Make a usable pot or a decorative lantern, bowl, or sculpture. To emphasize the coil design and texture, you will learn how to use glazing techniques that will allow the coils to remain visible. Students will be provided with everything they need to create: clay, tools, glazes, and expert instruction. No ceramics experience required!

Since the piece needs to be fired before it can be glazed, you will either need to return for a second session to glaze your piece or you can finish in one session if you opt for the studio to apply a clear glaze for you.

Within a few weeks of class, you will be enjoying your new handmade, food-safe artwork! The $35 workshop fee includes all material costs (including returning for an second session to glaze). Call the studio directly to reserve your second session for free. This adult class is open to youth aged 10-15 with a responsible adult present.

Call the studio at (916) 542-4066 with any questions or to check on the firing schedule and see when your piece will be ready for glazing.
